There are various sorts of puppets, the most widespread amongst which are those mentioned below. Hand puppets, also known as glove puppets, represent the most widespread kind of puppets. Hand puppets are composed of a head made of various materials, such as wood, papier-mache or cardboard cylinders, and a body constituting a rag glove that is put on the hand of puppeteer. By moving fingers the puppeteer makes the puppet doll animated. Amongst variations of hand puppets is finger puppet dolls. As it is understandable from the term such puppet dolls are put on fingers. They are small and are often used as toys for kids. One more widespread kind of puppets is represented by marionettes. Marionette constitutes a puppet doll with strings attached to various parts of its body. By pulling these strings puppeteer can manipulate the puppet and make it move. Marionettes are used both as an entertainment tool and in professional puppet theater plays. There is another amazing type of puppet dolls called shadow puppets. A shadow puppet represents a flat figure disposed in such a way that, when using a directed source of light, it produce a shadow of a certain personage on a translucent screen. Shadow theater originated in Asia more than 1500 years ago. It used to gain wide popularity in different parts of the world. These days shadow puppet theater is extremely popular in Indonesia.
